The Unknown
These photographs are from The Unknown, a photographic response to the landscape areas of the far north west of New South Wales, over the border into South Australia to the periphery of desert territory. A consistent emphasis was placed upon the found and the unknown as a response to place. Regional and rural areas soon expanded into remote territory. A recurring question, “How far before I get to the desert?” caused me to place a geographical marker that defined what I called the desert line, essentially, the edge of the desert, and specifically the region of the Strzelecki Desert.
Much is learned from immediate surroundings, and much remains unknown. A tension between introduced phenomena and the native environment is existent. By immersive observational means I question what exists beyond, and trace by photographing that which is an experiential perception of this landscape.
