Munro/Culdesac
Noel Burgess
YouTube Playlist YouTube ChannelMunro is the 13-part digital dramatic series written and directed by Michael Joy, that is a re-working of the material from the ABC series pilot Culdesac. Noel is the composer for the work, which also forms one of the two major creative works in his PhD, titled When Everything Can Change. His PhD investigates screen media composition using non-linear digital tools and the shift in narrative influence of a composer when all practitioners are using non-linear creative tools. It reveals the non-traditional configurations of a production workflow that these tools afford the creation of screen media work through a practice-led enquiry and actor-network analysis techniques. The original completed work is 43 minutes long and intended to establish the characters, location and illude to a multi-episodic narrative that explores a regional society with dark multi-generational secrets. The re-working exemplifies a key conclusion in the PhD, regarding co-integrated creation with interconnected digital tools and the potential to continually re-work the material into new forms. In essence this brings about questions around when a work is considered finished at all.
