Dr Myra Gurney (Western Sydney University) is a lecturer and academic program advisor in media, communication theory and professional writing in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts at Western Sydney University. Her interests include the language, politics and discourse of climate change communication as well as theories and issues of writing and educational pedagogy. As a foundation member of the editorial committee of Global Media Journal (Australia) she has edited several volumes of the journal and contributed to several books related to media and environmental communication.

Dr Hart Cohen is a Professor in Media Arts in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts and a member of the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University, Australia. He is currently the University’s Discipline Leader for Communication and Media. Dr Cohen has published widely in the field of visual anthropology, communications, film and media studies.

Check-out chick, journalist, surfer, bog-snorkelling champion, Leura local, Nicole’s career has spanned price checks and bar stints during her BA Communications through to life as a casual academic at Western Sydney, Macquarie and Charles Sturt Universities, PhD student in Creative Writing, Managing Director, Five Star PR, and columnist in some of Australia’s largest and most prestigious newspapers and magazines. She is an award winning short-story writer, currently writing a literary fiction and editing her urban fantasy. She holds a Masters Degree in Creative Writing, Masters of Teaching, and is a lover of dragons and all mystical creatures, great and small.

Naomi Lee McCarthy has twenty-five years’ experience working in education in art galleries. Her research explores how talking about artworks as a performative pedagogy of embodied, social interaction, impacts on the way we build meaningful and personally relevant relationships with contemporary art. This research examines necessarily intercultural intra-actions involving: a pedagogue; intercultural photographic and video art that feature the performed body enacting activism; and audiences made up of diverse groups of strangers.

Ramona Kennedy has been a nurse, a student of culture and language and a carer. Her writing journey began mid-life with an MA in Creative Writing. She is completing a DCA with the Writing and Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University, exploring her position as beneficiary, servant and victim of European colonial practice in an inevitably flawed engagement with the imperative to decolonise.
