The Future Makers documentary was commissioned for broadcast on Discovery Channel, and screened in numerous international film festivals. Many of these screenings were followed by panel discussions with scientists and researchers featured in the film. Whilst the film was made some years ago, its themes are still relevant as Australia faces many issues in making the transition required to mitigate climate change, towards clean energy futures, and sustainable practices. It provides an indicator of new ways of thinking needed to explore solutions and possibilities in this space. Bio-mimicry was one such concept explored, posing the idea that if we are to live in greater harmony with the natural world, its essential to learn more by observing the natural world, understanding how processes in nature can inform many of our “design solutions”.
