Career Focused Programs
At Western, we encourage you to prepare for your career from Day 1. That’s one of the many reasons our grads are so sought after by top organisations. You’ll develop a portfolio, a professional online profile, strengthen your CV with industry experiences and an internship, and have the opportunity to attend workshops and events to build your skills.
Award-Winning Teachers
Learn from the best! Our dedicated academics choose to teach at Western because it’s a university that recognises and nurtures the unlimited potential in all of us. Our lecturers and tutors are industry experienced, and highly skilled. Many are internationally recognised and have won industry and teaching awards.
Career Success
You’ll graduate with a strong critical awareness and commercial understanding of creative and communication fields. These qualities are highly valued by employers in a range of industries. Our graduates have gone on to work for the ABC, NewsCorp, Google, Spotify, Ogilvy, Universal Music Group, McCann Worldwide, the Australian Ballet, and more.
Practical Experience
We co-create our curriculum with external partners: creative organisations, media channels, government and corporate clients. You’ll work on real briefs to solve real world challenges. Bonus – you get to attend industry events like Made in the West Film Festival and the Walkley Awards (Journalism) and visit Broadcasters and Advertising Media Agencies.
Professional Recognition
Our programs are accredited by professional bodies, including the Public Relations Institute of Australia, the Media Federation of Australia, and the AACSB (Business subjects). This means that our programs are certified ‘best in class’, and you can trust that they meet high industry standards.
Study Abroad
Our students travel the globe – on study tours and to gain work experience. We’ve taken students to Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Vanuatu, Fiji, Taiwan, East Timor and to the United Nations Leadership Symposium to work on films, communication campaigns, news reports, sustainability, and leadership initiatives.
I’m not sure which degree is for me – who should I ask?
Email EnquiriesHCA@westernsydney.edu.au, and they will connect you to our Academic Program Advisors. Or you can ask to connect with any of the academics on the ‘Meet the Team’ page if you want to ask a specific question which relates to their focus area.
What if I don’t get the ATAR I need?
We also offer 3-year pathway programs which start with a Diploma. All you need is an ATAR of 55+ and the determination to work hard. When you successfully complete the 12-month diploma from The College, you gain guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Creative Industries, Communication or Screen Media at Western Sydney University. Click ‘Our Degrees’ to find out more.
Once I’ve started, can I switch from one degree to another?
Yes it may possible, but you will need to meet with an Academic Program Advisor. They will advise you as to what you can do, which subjects you’ll need to take, and map out a plan for you.
Will you find me an internship?
We’ll help you find an internship, but ultimately, it’s up to you to secure the placement. Not only does this give you the opportunity to get into the practice of finding work and promoting your abilities – a critical skill in our field – but it also ensures that you gain experience in a placement that suits your strengths and interests.
Will I get a job in the Creative Industries?
Our grads are in high demand, and we have one of the highest Graduate Placement rates. But ultimately it’s up to you – apply yourself, commit to your studies, take advantage of all the opportunities and events while you’re studying, and get involved. Once you’re a Western student, you gain access to our Facebook Group where we regularly post internships, scholarships, volunteer gigs, and entry-level roles. Our Careers Hub also posts internships and jobs, and runs free workshops on CV writing and interview skills.
