Bachelor of Creative Industries
Australia’s creative industries are a major driver of our economy, worth an estimated $30 billion and employing thousands. In our Creative Industries degree you’ll develop future-focused creative and entrepreneurial skills which will give you greater career agility.
You’ll study core subjects in Innovation, Ideation, and Collaboration plus a selection of Entrepreneurial, Media Law and Business subjects. Specialise in one of the discipline areas: Advertising, Graphic Design, English, Public Relations, Enterprise Innovation, Journalism, Screen Media, Creative Writing, Music/Sound Production, Culture and Society, or Law and the Creative Industries. Or you can combine two areas, for greater career flexibility.
Everyone has creative potential, and in this degree we work with you to develop your skills, in your area of interest. Throughout your degree, you’ll work on real briefs with a diverse range of partner organisations: start-ups, creative agencies, businesses, and not-for-profits. You’ll graduate career-ready, to join a creative organisation, freelance or even start your own company.
Creative Industries Double Degrees - One extra year of study
Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Creative Industries
Develop the skills you’ll need for a career in Visual Communication, as well as additional expertise in one of the Creative Industries majors. For example, combine Design with Screen Media, Creative Writing or Advertising.
Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Creative Industries
Combine your studies in a range of Arts, Communication, Design and Music majors and be equipped with real life skills to take advantage of incredible career opportunities. For example combine Criminology & Criminal Justice with Journalism, Creative Writing with Screen Media, Innovation & Change with Public Relations.
Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Creative Industries
This double degree brings together the Music program with emerging creative industries and allows students who are interested in pursuing careers in music to also develop skills in entrepreneurship and collaboration.
Bachelor of Communication
You’re curious, enjoy telling stories, and you want to use media to share ideas about the things that get people talking.
Our Communication degree will give you the professional skills and knowledge to build the ‘go anywhere, do anything’ career you want. Major in Journalism, Advertising or Public Relations and develop job-ready skills in communication, digital media, media production, research and innovation.
Your first year of study covers general communication theory and practice, giving you a solid understanding of how the different disciplines overlap and connect. Second and third year allows you to focus on your chosen Communication major. Working in the classroom and in the field with expert industry partners, you’ll get the kind of hands-on practical experience that employers love to see.
We’ll help you build a portfolio, develop your professional brand, understand project workflows and client needs, and establish the contacts you’ll need to kick-start your career.
Communication Double Degrees - One extra year of study
Bachelor of Communication/Bachelor of Business
Develop your expertise in a field of Communication, and gain Business acumen in Finance, Marketing, Sports Management, Human Resources or International Business.
Bachelor of Communication/Bachelor of Creative Industries
Complement your skills in your chosen Communication discipline, with the expertise gained from one of 11 Creative Industries majors. For example combine Advertising with Graphic Design, or Journalism with English.
Bachelor of Screen Media
Our Screen Media degree is for the student who wants to specialise in storytelling on screen – whether that’s via mobile media, web platforms, installations, TV or cinema.
You’ll be working with our award winning professional filmmakers and editors, at our state-of-the-art studio facilities at Parramatta South. Throughout your degree, you’ll develop a range of skills including scriptwriting, lighting, composing and framing, interviewing, directing, sound mixing, animation and visual effects, AR/VR and editing. You’ll have a lots of opportunities to use our high end cameras, green screen, lighting and sound equipment.
From day one, you’ll be building your digital portfolio and personal branding skills, and working with real clients. This means that when you graduate, you’ll have the right connections and be in the best position to launch your career.

We also offer 3-year pathway programs which start with a Diploma. All you need is an ATAR of 55+ and the determination to work hard. When you successfully complete the 12-month diploma from The College, you gain guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Creative Industries, Communication or Screen Media at Western Sydney University.

Once I’ve started, can I switch from one degree to another?
Yes it may be possible, but you will need to meet with an Academic Program Advisor. They will advise you as to what you can do, which subjects you’ll need to take, and map out a plan for you.
Will you find me an internship?
We’ll help you find an internship, but ultimately, it’s up to you to secure the placement. Not only does this give you the opportunity to get into the practice of finding work and promoting your abilities – a critical skill in our field, but it also ensures that you gain experience in a placement that suits your strengths and interests.
Will I get a job in the Creative Industries?
Our grads are in high demand, and we have one of the highest Graduate Placement rates. But ultimately it’s up to you – apply yourself, commit to your studies, take advantage of all the opportunities and events while you’re studying, and get involved. Once you’re a Western student, you gain access to our Facebook Group where we regularly post internships, scholarships, volunteer gigs, and entry-level roles. Our Careers Hub also posts internships and jobs, and runs free workshops on CV writing and interview skills.
